What is this course about?

This 30 hour course is designed to help teachers produce students that not only master course content, but also become scientifically proficient thinkers and problem solvers. Through the exercises in this course, participants will learn 6 critical elements that make high school science teachers more effective. Participants will analyze current teaching methods and develop new lessons which implement the six essential elements necessary for maximum success in today's science classroom. The minimum time for participant completion of this course is 30 hours over a minimum of three days. Participants must spend 300 minutes logged in to the course over three days to receive credit.

What is this course about?

This course is designed to help science teachers examine and develop a repertoire of strategies for teaching science that will support the Next Generation Science Standards.  Through the exercises in this course, teachers will unpack the National Science Standards, build a working definition of inquiry-based science, become familiar with the 5 E’s method of planning and teaching science, explore options for integrating Math, ELA, Music and other disciplines into science instruction, and read about the probable future of science education. The minimum time for participant completion of this course includes both enrollment time and system logged in activity time. Enrollment time is a total of three calendar days (4320 minutes) from the moment of enrollment. Activity time includes 300 minutes logged into the system. This 30-hour course uses a combination of both time requirements to maximize participation and allow time for completion of ongoing assignments and assessments. Completion certificates are restricted until both time requirements are accomplished.
