What is this course about?
It is common knowledge that physical education has fallen by the wayside as schools are forced to focus on specific academic goals in compressed school schedules. Physical education classes have been cut at every age level correlating with rising childhood obesity levels and decreasing students’ focus and concentration skills. Course participants will learn about working with school colleagues to ensure students are engaging in physical activity during school hours, even if they are not attending physical education classes every day. Subjects covered include: brain health and physical activity, the mind-body connection, fighting childhood obesity, and the future of physical education, among others. The minimum time for participant completion of this course includes both enrollment time and system logged in activity time. Enrollment time is a total of three calendar days (4320 minutes) from the moment of enrollment. Activity time includes 300 minutes logged into the system. This 30-hour course uses a combination of both time requirements to maximize participation and allow time for completion of ongoing assignments and assessments. Completion certificates are restricted until both time requirements are accomplished.
